A New Generation of Skullcandy Design

 

The Skullcandy Rail family of earbuds is the first launch in a series of products looking to bring new energy to the brand.

It modernizes the Skullcandy visual language and introduces transparency in key areas to give a nod to Skullcandy’s Y2K roots while recognizing todays young users still want quality and style. 

 
 

CREATING THE HYPE

At the internal preview, as a Design team we created this teaser video to set the vibe that a new era of Skullcandy was coming, setting the tone for our other projects.

 
 

Bringing back the classic bass-heavy Skullcandy sound needed to be more than just upgrades internally, it had to be a whole new modern take on what Skullcandy meant to today’s Gen Z user.

 

The best sound doesn’t matter without a proper fit. We tested, re-tested and tested again. The design of the Rail family started in VR using dozens of ears in the digital space, then on to traditional methods of print, test, print again then test again and again. From size, nozzle angle, nozzle length, ear gel size and material, we explored it all until we found the perfect fit to help create the bass-heavy soundstage we wanted Skullcandy to be known for.
